Slipper Socks

Pattern made by Bryanna

This slipper sock pattern has a firm gauge and low ankle. They were made for my size 4 feet, but can be easily adjusted to fit anyones feet. Anything in blue is helpful info on how to adjust the size.

Type: Knit
Difficulty: Medium
Yarn weight: Worsted Weight
Needle type: 2 normal needles
Needle size: US-4
Gauge: 5 sts per 1 in.

The cuff:

Cast on 38 sts with black yarn. (I have a 7.5 in ankle. To figure out how many sts you need to cast on, times the number of inches around your ankle by five.
7.5 x 5 = 37.5 Always round up to the nearest even number. If you have a 9 inch ankle, you would do 9 x 5 = 45. so you would need to cast on 46 sts.)

Rib for 2 rows by doing k 1, p 1 across the row. (If you want a longer cuff, rib for as many rows as you like untill it is long enough) Change colors to dark blue and work 2 more rows in stst.

Top of foot:

At beg of next row, cast off 9 sts. Knit the rest of the sts in the row. At beg of next row: cast off 10 more sts. Purl the rest of the sts in the row. You should have 19 sts left. (If you cast on more sts for the cuff, then you will have to do a little math for this step. If you have a 9 in. ankle, then you would of casted on 46 sts. Now you will have to devide 46 by 2. This will give you 23. That is the number of sts that are needed for the top of the sock. Now take 23 and devide it by 2. You should get 11.5. Since this number did not come out even, that means that you will have to cast of 11 sts on one side ot the sock, and 12 sts on the other side of the sock. This will leave you with 23 sts for the top of the sock.)

Now work in stst on the stitches that are left until the top of the sock is about 1/2 inch away from the tip of your big toe. It took me 36 rows.

The toe:

Cut the blue yarn and tie on the black. In the next row, k 2 together at the begining and end of the next row. Next row Purl all sts. Repeat the last 2 rows until only half of the stitches needed for the top of the foot are left. I worked until there were only 9 sts left. (If your top of foot had 23 sts, then work until there are only 11 stitches left.) Don't forget to end with the second row of repeat.

Increase 1 at beg and end of next row. Next row: Purl all sts. Repeat the 2 rows you have the same numbers of sts you used for the top of the foot. End with the first row of the repeat.

Bottom of the foot:

Cut the black yarn and tie on the blue. Knit the same number of rows that you did for the top of the foot plus one in stst. (It took me 36 sts for the top of the foot, so for the bottom of the foot, work 37 rows. If it took you 40 row for the top of the sock, then work 41 rows for the bottom of the sock.)

Heel:

Cut the blue yarn and tie on the black. In the next row, k 2 together at the begining and end of the next row. Next row Purl all sts. Repeat these 2 rows until you get down to the same number of sts you decreased for the toe. End with the first row of repeat.

Increase 1 at beg and end of next row. Next row: Knit all sts. Repeat the 2 rows you have the same numbers of sts you used for the top of the foot and bottom of the foot. End with the second row of repeat. Bind off.

To finnish it

Using matching yarn, sew the cuff so that it is round and the seam is in the back. Next sew the bind off row to the back of the cuff. Next, sew the angles of the heel. Also sew the angles of the toe. Finally, sew the sides of the foot together. Hide all loose ends.
